👨👩👧 AI for Parents: Supporting Children in an AI World
About Course
Artificial intelligence is now part of everyday life for many children. From homework support and online research to content creation, entertainment and problem solving, young people are encountering AI tools at school, at home and across the digital services they use.
For parents, this creates unfamiliar questions. How can AI support learning without becoming a shortcut? What information should children avoid sharing? How can families set sensible boundaries while helping children develop the skills they will need in an increasingly AI influenced world?
This course provides clear, calm and practical guidance for parents, with no technical knowledge required. It explains what AI is, where children are likely to encounter it, how they are using it, and why its answers and recommendations should not always be accepted at face value.
Across five structured lessons, parents will explore the educational and creative opportunities offered by AI alongside important concerns involving inaccurate information, privacy, inappropriate content, overdependence and academic honesty. The course explains how to establish healthy boundaries without unnecessary conflict, encourage children to think before turning to AI, and use the technology to support explanation, practice and feedback rather than replace genuine learning.
The course also looks beyond immediate concerns to consider how children can prepare for a future in which AI is likely to influence education, employment and everyday decision making. It emphasises adaptable human capabilities including curiosity, communication, critical thinking, creativity, resilience and ethical judgement.
The focus is not on fear, surveillance or blanket restriction. It is on understanding, communication and gradually building responsible independence.
By the end of the course, parents will be better equipped to discuss AI confidently, recognise its opportunities and limitations, support their child’s education, and establish a balanced approach to technology that can develop as their child grows.
